Elder Smithey was ordained at Boyd schoolhouse near Bonham, TX. He came to Chickasaw Nation territory in the early part of his ministry and began immediately to do evangelistic work througout the old Chickasaw Nation and portions of the old Oklahoma Territory. In 1915 Center Ass'n minutes, his name appears as having been elected to bring a message. We have no record of the number of conversions in his ministry nor the number of churches that he organized; however, we know that he was constantly engaged in the evangelization of the old Chickasaw Nation and that a number of churches were organized as the direct result of his labors. Eld. Smithey possessed great power as an evangelist and his method of reasoning on the doctrine of FWB was that he convinced ministers of other denominations to take membership in the church. He was a good organizer and did the more prominent work in the organization of the Oklahoma Association. His son, Ira J. Smithey, was also a minister.
