LOUISE M. "Pat" MORRIS, 85, of Houston, Texas, died peacefully on September 12, 2009 of cancer, in Denver, Colorado while surrounded by her family. She was laid to rest next to her husband, Michael B. Morris, in a family service at Snowmass Village Cemetery on Saturday, September 19, 2009 in Snowmass Village, Colorado. Louise was born in 1923, in Bishop, Texas, an only child with a large extended family in south Texas. She attended high school in Robstown, Texas, and college in Kingsville, Texas. After graduating, she worked as a secretary for an oil company in Corpus Christi, Texas until she was married in 1951 to Michael B. Morris. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage until Mike's death in 1995. Through Mike's long career with Conoco Oil Company, culminating in his position as President of Petroleum Operations, the couple, with their two sons, Jim and Rick, moved from Texas to Western Canada, to New York City suburbs, and back to Houston, Texas. Louise had many passionate pursuits throughout her life: tennis, skiing, travel and the arts. Her greatest joys in life were family and friends. Annual vacations with family and friends to the Canadian Rockies, and later the Colorado Rockies, in winter and summer, became a central part of her family's life through three generations. Louise had an "artist's eye" and was an avid supporter of the arts. She was a long-lived breast cancer survivor and served on the board of the Baylor Breast Cancer Center as well as doing volunteer work at their associated clinic. She was also an active supporter of cultural organizations, charities, and the churches she attended in Houston and Snowmass, Colorado. Louise was the gentle, loving heart of our family. She was known for encouraging us to take the time, daily, to enjoy the company of friends and loved ones, and the beauty of nature and art. She gratefully acknowledged her long, amazing and happy life. Louise enjoyed her last year living in Denver at the Classic Residence by Hyatt, near her sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, friends, and the family's Snowmass home. Louise is survived by her two sons, Richard Ben Morris; James Michael Morris and his wife Mary Kay, and grandchildren Michael John and Kimberly Camille. The family requests that contributions in Louise "Pat" Morris's memory go to any of the organizations she was a fervent supporter of. In Houston: the Symphony, the Ballet, the Museums of Science and Fine Art, Baylor Medical Breast Cancer Center, James A. Baker Institute, Saint Luke's United Methodist Church, and The United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast. In Snowmass/Aspen: The Aspen Institute, the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Snowmass Chapel. She also supported the A.A.P.G. Foundation, NPR Radio, and the Marion R. Pullin Arizona Opera Studio.
