Mary came to the U.S. all by herself in 1880 at age 18, probably with employment with a German family in Bellevue, Iowa, pre-arranged. While working in Bellevue, she met and married William Felix Baier, the son of a well-established German-American family.
Mary gave birth to son, Emil, in Bellevue in 1887, followed by Frank (Seattle, 1890), Katherine (Mount Vernon, Oregon, 1894), and William (1895).
Mary and William split up sometime in the late 1890's. William took their eldest, Emil, and the younger three stayed with their mother. Mary married Canyon City pioneer, Aaron Cornelius Hall, in 1899. With Aaron she had four children: Rollie (1900-1941), Mary Emma "Mayme" (1901-1988), Alma (1904-2000), and Josephine (1905-1980).
