At age eighteen, Allene was an accomplished pianist. She developed accute appendicitis in early February, 1936. Most unusual for North Dakota, there was so much snow in the Bismarck area that automobiles could not travel on the highways. Allene's father took her by bobsled 10 miles east to a Bismarck hospital. Her appendix was ruptured and she died February 11, 1936.
