Jean Boswell Oravits of Spotsylvania County passed away at her home on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009. She was 76.

She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Joseph Oravits; three sons, Jon Zitz of Stafford County, Robert Zitz of Alexandria, and Michael Zitz of Spotsylvania; four sisters, Delsie McKelvey of Stafford, Dot Leach of Newbern, Tenn., Doris Sears of Henderson, Texas, and Tanya Reath of Riverton, N.J.; two brothers, Billy Boswell and Ricky Boswell, both of Stafford; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her brothers Bobby Boswell and Charlie Boswell and sisters Muriel Hopp and Charlotte Welchman preceded her in death.

She was the daughter of the late Edward Boswell and Ada Abel Boswell of Boswell's Corner in North Stafford. Her older brother, Charlie Boswell, became a well-known figure in the Fredericksburg area as a deejay at WFLS in the 1960s and 1970s.
A celebration of her life will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Covenant Funeral Service, 4801 Jefferson Davis, Fredericksburg.

A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Quantico National Cemetery.
