The news of the death of Stephen U. Appel, a well known young farmer of Highland township, comes as a shock to all who knew him. Mr. Appel died at his home at 2:45 o'clock Wednesday afternood, Jan. 8, following a short illness with influenza complications. Mr. Appel was born in Highland township, Wabasha County, Minnesota, March 4, 1884, and spent his entire life in the community. At the time of his death he was operating the old home place. he was an excellent young man, industrious and thrifty, always highly respected. Only last week he came to Wabasha to visit his mother at the hospital, and appeared to be in the best of health and spirits. Mr. Appel is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Appel, and the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Appel of San Francisco, Cal.; August M. and Edward S. Appel of Newport, Wash.; Frank J. Appel of Highland; Mrs. Elizabeth Appel Campbell of Washington; Mrs. Ida Appel Meizner and Miss Amanda Appel of Butte, Montana. Stephen Appel, the father, died May 6, 1914. The funeral, which was private, was held this afternoon, with burial in St. Peter & Paul's cemetery, Conception, the Rev. Joseph Zahner officiating at the grave. Sincerest sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones in their dark hours of sorrow.
