Susan Vernon Anthis was born on September 26, 1896, in Milam, Rockdale County, Texas. She was the daughter of Franklin Anthis and Martha Elizabeth Kyle, who had married in Milam County, Texas, on December 25, 1880. Susie moved to Tucson with her husband Tom and their three children (Violet, Mary, and TC) in 1931. She died there in 1944 as a result of complications following surgery.
