Death Claims Bertha S. Buist, Mendon— Mrs. Bertha Sorensen Buist, 82 one of Mendon's pioneer residents, died early today at the home of a daughter in Salt Lake City. She was born December 7th, 1876 in Mendon, a daughter of Isaac and Mary Jacobsen Sorensen. She was married to Alexander Buist on February 1st, 1906 in the Logan L.D.S. temple. Mr. Buist died in December 1942.


Surviving are three daughters and one son: Mrs. Rawl (Leona) Rice, Amalga; Charles A., Logan; Mrs. Clive (Mary) Johnson, Salt Lake City and Mrs. Lewis (Ester) Kerr, Wellsville; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two brothers, Joseph C. and Henry C. Sorensen, both of Mendon; two sisters, Mrs. Eulalia Welch and Mrs. Olive Hughes, both of Logan.


At the time of her death, Mrs. Buist was a member of Mendon L.D.S. Ward, where she had lived since 1942. Prior to that time, she had resided in Wellsville for thirty years. In her younger life, she had been M.I.A. secretary, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the ward choir. She had served in the Primary presidency, was active as a block teacher in the Relief Society, and as a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.


Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ~The Herald Journal, June 25th, 1959, page 2.


Funeral Services— For Mrs. Bertha Buist will be held Monday at one p.m. in the Mendon ward chapel, with Bishop Rulen C. Ladle conducting. Friends may call at Hall Mortuary Sunday from seven to nine p.m. and at the home in Mendon after ten a.m. Burial will be in Mendon cemetery. ~The Herald Journal, June 26th, 1959, page 10.
