Erastus Cone Sr. was the son of John Cone and Rebecca Sage. He was born in Westminster , VT on March 23, 1798. He married Nancy Thomas on July 16, 1820. Nancy was born in Woodstock , VT on Dec 11, 1801 and died in Monroe county, MI. They had at least six children and apparently divorced. Erastus was a merchant at Clarendon, Orleans county and also owned a large grist mill there. He settled in what became Cone in Monroe county. He married his second wife Sarah Uptegraph on Jan 12, 1848. Sarah was born Dec 16, 1830. He and Sarah had 11 children; two daughters died in childhood. In 1866 he served as justice of the peace. He died April 14, 1869, age 71. Children: Joseph E., Judge, Alvin, William J. John C.(mother Nancy), Mary, Nancy (mother Nancy), Rachel, Benjamin, Clarissa (mother Nancy), and Eliza.
