Died at her home in Weir, Kansas Oct. 16, 19O5 after an illness of two months. Mrs. Lydia Toy age 89 years and 3 days. Lydia Ekard was born near Philadelphia, Pa., Oct. 15. I816 and was married to James Toy Dec. 25. I836 in Philadelphia. In I837 they moved to Metamora, III, where they lived a short time and from there to Washburn, Ill where they lived until Dec. 1882 when they moved to Cherryvale Kansas residing here until the death of her husband in 1891 since that time she has made her home with her son, Nelson, At the age of 35 she became a Christian and united with the M. E. Church she Ins bejn a faithful member of the M E Church she has been a faithful member of the ME church here for the past 24 years. Grandma Toy as she was familiary known was one that was loved and respected by all who knew her. aIl who knew her sweet Christian disposition endeared her to all who had enjoyed the privilege of her acquaintance. She was always thoughtful of those around her and anxious to minister to her and life can truly be said to be one of loving service. In the hour of her death she was ready and anxious to be called home. Gently and peacefully as a child going to rest she closed her eyes on this world to awake in a brighter world wheie sickness pain and sorrow are unknown. She leaves to mourn her loss eight children two step-children and forty grand-children and forty-three great-grand-children. The children are: Mrs. S. A. Sweet, Momence, 111., Mrs. E. HI. Sweet, De Ridder, La., Mrs. J. D. Wilson, Chicago, III., Mrs. B. D. Howard, Fairfield, Neb., Mrs. W. G Abbott, Chenoa, Ill., Nelscn Toy. Weir, Kanss, T. D. Toy and J. M. of this city. The step children are Mrs. Ann Millard, Loumore, la., and Mrs. Mary Fallman, Milwaukee, Wis. Five of these were permitted to be here. Her funeral was held at the M. E. Chuich in this city Oct. 20 at 2:30 P. M. conducted by Rev. Bascom Kobbins assisted by Rev. A. t,. v anorden ana ner remains were laid to rest by the sileof those of her husband in Fairview Cemetery.
