SPRINGFIELD - Dorothea Riecks-Shivers, 87, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Springfield.

She was born August 9, 1922, in Springfield, the daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothea (Kreppert) Riecks. She married Charles (Chester) Shivers; and he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1984.

Mrs. Shivers was a cook at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield retiring in 1985. Previously she worked in the same capacity for Springfield School District 186. She was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield.

She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Doris Riecks of Springfield, Lucille Riecks of Springfield, and Alice Riecks of Auburn; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Alvina Webb, Hilda Kidd, Ruth Akin, and Wilma Kern; and three brothers, Frederick, Carl and Paul Riecks.

Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield. Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. till time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Paul Olson officiating. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
