John E. Hooper of 2600 Maple Avenue, Altoona, died at 6:40 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 1960, at the Altoona Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona on September 21, 1917, a son of John C. and Bertha (Kann) Hooper. he was married to Garnet Weller.

His wife is surviving, along with the following children: Wayne B., Robert R., William T., Bertha L. and Linda R., all at home. Also surviving are three brothers, William H. Hooper, Walter C. Hooper and Herbert J. Hooper, all of Altoona.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion Post of Mapleton Depot. He served with the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. For a period of time he was a cook on the Pennsylvania Railroad work train. Until last year Mr. Hooper operated a fruit stand at the foot of Warrior Ridge.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5, at 10 a.m. from the Bigelow funeral home in Altoona. Friends are being received at the funeral home.
