John Sanuel Hanks 75, 1780 Harrison Ave. (1355 South), died Friday at 3:50 p.m. in his residence after an illness.
He was Beaver County superintendent of schools 1913-17 and later special agent for Continental Life Insurance Co. and Montana Life Insurance Co.
Valedictorian of the 1902 graduating class, University of Utah, he was a member of the U. of U. Emeritus Club.
Mr. Hanks was an educator in Beaver and Iron counties for 15 years after 1902, part of the time as principal of Belnap School, Beaver.
A teacher in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organization, he was a high priest in Colonial Hills Ward at the time of his death.
Mr. Hanks was born May 21, 1881, in Paragonah, Iron County, to George W. and Eliza Edwards Hanks. He married Mabel Whitney Sept. 7, 1904, in Parowan, Iron County. The marriage later was solemnized Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Surviving are widow; son, Dr. J. Whitney Hanks, Salt Lake City; daughters, Mrs. Ronald L. (Ilene) Kingsbury, Mrs. Farrel S. (Maurine) Johnson, and Mrs. Clayton F. (Mabel Jean) Wilkinson, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Roy P. (Beth) Walker, North Hollywood, Calif.; 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services Tuesday 12:15 pm. 124-4th East where friends may call Monday 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday prior to funeral.
Burial Salt Lake City Cemetery.
