Jacob Henry Detty, 82, of 935 Columbus St., died Sunday following a nine-month illness.

The son of David and Elizabeth Crago Detty, he was born Nov. 15, 1874, in Vinton County, but lived most of his life in Ross County.

He was employed as a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad section hand for 17 years, retiring in 1940.

He was married June 7, 1897, to Eliza Boots, who survives him. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Fred Kuhn, Mrs. Richard Shoemaker and Mrs. Oakley Fout; five sons, James, George, the Rev. Floyd, the Rev. Clarence and Earl; two sisters, Mrs. Tilda Arledge and Mrs. Maria Reed; 42 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two daughters.

Mr. Detty was a member of the Willing Workers Mission, and service will be held there at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. William Walsh and the Rev. Henry Hammond officiating. Burial by the Fawcett Oliver Funeral Home will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Fred Kohn residence, 936 Jefferson Ave., after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
