Farmer, Passes Away


C. L. Been, 80, retired farmer who has resided in this vicinity 55 years, died at his home in this city Monday night. Five years ago he sustained a stroke since when he had been an invalid. He had been bedfast three weeks

Services were at the First Baptist church Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Jim House officiating, assisted by Rev. Geo. L. Hart. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery under direction of Bahner funeral home.

Columbus Lee Been was born in Greenwood, Ark., June 21, 1871, and came to this community from Sabastian county. He had been a member of the Baptist church 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Amanda Been of the home; eight daughters, Mrs. H. F. Williams, Davis Okla.; Mrs. W. D. Smith, Deer Island, Oregon; Mrs. J. F. Martin, Elmore City, Okla.; Mrs. Melvin Birdwell, Wirt, Okla.; Mrs. Carl Anderson, Madill, Okla.; Mrs. A. L. Salmon, Lawton, Okla.; Mrs. Sam Brown, Clinton, Okla., and Mrs. Ray Tabor, Dallas, Texas; two sons, Arthur Been, Penwell, Texas, and Woodrow Been, Fillmore, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Coleman, Fort Smith, Ark.; Mrs. Beulah Davis, Greenwood, Ark., and Mrs. Dealie Helm in California; five brothers, Mitchell of Okemah, Okla.; Ruff and Joe of Greenwood, Ark.; Virgil of Tulsa, Okla., and Les of Calif.; 34 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

A son Clyde passed away at the age of seven years.
