Funeral services for George L. Attig, 86, of Rural Route 3, Aledo, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Jinks Funeral Home, Aledo. The Rev. Robert Anderson of the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was in Hamlet Cemetery.
Masonic services were conducted Monday night by the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 679, of which he was a member.
Memorials were made to the Hamlet Cemetery Association.
Mr. Attig died Sunday, Oct. 28, 1984 at his home.
Mr. Attig was born April 26, 1898, in Duncan Township, a son of Nicholas and Margarethe Leonardt Attig. He received his education in rural Marston School. He attended Augustana College, Rock Island. He married Ruth Volk May 23, 1928 in Preemption, Illinois
He was a member of the Hamlet United Presbyterian Church, a past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, Prairie Chapter 516, Buffalo Prairie, a former director of Marston School and a former member and board chairman of Reynolds Community High School. He also served as president of the Mercer County Farm Bureau for seven years, was a former chairman of the Hamlet Cemetery Association Board and was a life member of the Mercer County Historical Society.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Ramona Stephen of Littleton, CO, a son, George L. Jr of Reynolds, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a sister, Eva Titterington of Edgington.
