Death - Daphne sustained her husband, Isaiah, to the extent that when she heard the guns of the battle in which Isaiah was wounded, she put her babe, some bandages and medicine into a boat, and rowed twenty miles to the scene of action. As the Hamblin family began preparations to leave for Council Bluffs in 1847, Daphne became ill. They waited two days hoping she would become better, but she died there early in 1847. Daphne was buried along the trail in Pottawattamie County, Iowa with only a crude marker for her grave. The Santa Clara Cemetery marker is a memorial to her memory which is shared with her husband, Isaiah.
