Doris Jean Allred Halladay, age 55, a 17-year resident of Simi Valley, died Tuesday, November 21, 1995, after more than a six-year battle with cancer.
She was born September 2, 1940, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Berten Wendell Allred and Alice Worthington Allred. She attended elementary schools in Fort Worth and Midlothian, Texas, and secondary schools in Washington, D.C.
She graduated with a B.A. degree from Brigham Young University in 1962. After college graduation, she returned home to Washington, D.C., where she was a secretary at the Pan American Union. She was a Fullbright Scholar attending classes for one year in Lima, Peru, at the University of San Marcos. After returning to the United States, she was a secondary school teacher of foreign languages in Utah, where she taught, Spanish, French and German. After her marriage in 1966 to Scott Jacobson Halladay, they lived in Provo and Price, Utah, before moving to Simi Valley. Most recently, she worked for Kirk and Associates in Simi Valley.
She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities over the years with special emphasis in the Relief Society, the women's organization.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Shaun and Kristy Halladay; and a daughter, Lisa Halladay, all of Simi Valley; her mother, Alice W. Allred of Tooele, Utah, and a sister, Alice Allred Pottmyer, of Arlington, Virginia.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Reardon Simi Valley Mortuary. There will also be a visitation Monday morning from 9-9:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the corner of Township and Tapo Canyon, Simi Valley. The service will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Manti Cemetery, Manti, Utah, Wednesday, November 29, 1995.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
