Born Sept 6, 1869 in Ostre Toten Kommune, Oppland, Norway to Haagen & Marie, Carrie immigrated to the US as a young girl. She married Aadne Hoiland Jr in 1887 and together they farmed on homesteads in the Fort Ransom and Kathryn NoDak area.
They had 3 sons; Eddie, Henry and William and their daughter Helen Marie Hoiland died when she was only 1 yr old. Carrie and Aadne jr divorced and years later she married Martin Smeston in 1952.
Carrie's home was in Fort Ransom for most of her life. She died in 1953 at the Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, Minnehaha, South Dakota,
