Dean P. Allis, 51, of RR 1 Warren Center, a well known resident of Bradford County, died Saturday, July 19, 1997 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 13, 1946 in Towanda, he was a son of Madaline (Manchester) and the late Paul Mitten Allis. He was a 1964 graduate of Northeast Bradford High School. Following graduation, he entered into the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. Mr. Allis was a lifetime member of the Northeast Bradford Memorial Post No. 6824, where he was currently service officer and adjutant, and was commander from 1986-88. He served as District 14 commander from 1987-88. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post No. 42 of Towanda. He was also a member of the LeRaysville Pike Volunteer Fire Company, the Warren Center Fire Department, Eastern Bradford Rod and Gun Association of Rome and the Sayre Cooties. He was employed by Taylor Packing, was a former employee for Pike Township, where he served as road supervisor, and also Masonite in Towanda. Mr. Allis enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, NASCAR racing and trivia, but his greatest love was for his family. On May 18, 1996 in Warren Center, he married the former Shirley Rockwell. In addition to his mother of Rome, and his wife, he is survived by: a daughter, Cathy Allis, at home, and her fiance, Rich Lewis; stepchildren, Lisa Johnston of Laceyville, Terri Clouse of Potterville and her fiance, "Jr." Yates, Kevin Young and his wife, Debra, serving in the U.S. Navy in California, and Joe Johnston and his wife Dawn, of Copenhagen, NY.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Virginia Allis of Rome; a brother, Lt. Col. Daryl Allis of Phoneix, Ariz.; a sister, Carol Allis of Phonenix; stepgrandchildren, Tori Johnston, Johnicca Strozyk, Rebecca Clouse, Erin Clouse, Amanda Young and Ashley Young; several aunts and uncles; two nieces, Tammy and Lori Allis; many cousins; his mother-in-law, Theresa Rockwell of Little Meadows; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Sandy Rockwell of Conklin, NY., Lyle and Joanne Rockwell of Athens, and the Rev. David and Mary Rockwell of Owego; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Walt Baldwin of Warren Center, and Donna and Bernie Shaver of Little Meadows; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Sawyer of Nichols. Mr. Allis was predeceased by his father on May 24, 1969; and a brother-in-law, Jon "Jack" Sawyer, on June 28, 1997. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-9 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 Main St., Nichols, NY. A funeral service and celebration of Mr. Allis's life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Brad Marple, pastor of the Warren Center Methodist Church, and Mr. Allis's brother-in-law, the Rev. David Rockwell, pastor of the Owego United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in South Warren Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Northeast Bradford Post No. 6824. The family will provide flowers.
