One of the most deplorable and sad dear deaths that ever came under the observation of this writer was that in which Mr. J.U. Jones, an honest, hard working farmer lost his life on last Saturday night.
Everyone who knew Mr. Jones liked him because of his happy disposition and loved his fellow man and his sudden death cast a gloom over the entire neighborhood in which he lived. Mr. Jones was 45 years of age and leaves a wife and four little boys the oldest about sixteen years of age to mourn his untimely departure. He was a member of the National Union, the fraternal order that organized here about January 1st. His remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Double Pond Church, near Blackville, on Monday morning, the following gentlemen acting as pallbearers: Wiley Shelton, Culler Still, Jake Hartzog, Elisha Martin, Charlie Hutto and Elias Hartzog.
