The son of Dr. Charles Peters and Mary (Hewlett), John was a Warden of Saint George's Church from 1752 to 1779. He was a landowner and inn-keeper at Norwich, Queens County, and is named in the Town Book of Hempstead, 1745, as "John Peters, Sadler."

John is the father of: Charles; Elizabeth; John; Samuel, and Smith Peters.
