The following information was shared by Find A Grave visitor, Janet Garland:

I am a descendant of "Jonas" Shaw. I just want to let you know that in all documents that I have found (marriage, slave purchases and sales, land purchases, court documents) I have found while researching him for the last 20 years, his first name has been spelled "Jones", including his own signature. I assume that it is a surname being used as his first name, perhaps the name of a presently unknown relative or perhaps a friend of his father or a famous member of the Jones family. But, regardless of the source, which I hope to learn some day, the true spelling is "Jones." Below, you'll find the text of several documents in which Jones is named.

Thanks very much!
Janet Garland, one of many of Jones' third great grandchildren
