Isaac and two of his brothers, Joseph and Franklin, enlisted in Company D, 8th Missouri Cavalry Regiment. Their oldest brother, John, served in the 2nd Regiment of the California Cavalry. In a letter to family Isaac's father James reported: "I thought I would stay at home and keep my boys, and did so til we were robbed of a large portion of our property on the 10th of August 1862 at nite after being robbed and abused in the day. My three oldest boys that was at home left and went to Springfield and joined the US army". He further related: "Isaac died at Springfield Mo 2 months after he enlisted. His widow Jane and her little son Isaac Maryon is with us." Isaac's brother Franklin, born also in Johnson County died in Bloomfield, Missouri August 5, 1863, while serving in the US army.
