Ruth, 89, died January 19,2007, at the Pioneers' Home in Anchorage, Alaska.
She was born July 24, 1917 to Ursel and Alice Grover in Rigby, Idaho, the eldest of thirteen children. she was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Ririe High School. She attended ISU in Pocatello and furthered her education at The University of Utah in Salt Lake City and received a bachelor's degree in Nursing Education.
In November 1947, she moved to Seward, Alaska. she worked as a registered nurse helping to end the "tuberculosis" epidemic in rural Alaska by traveling to remote villages testing, vaccinating, and recording the populations. She traveled by Dog team, skiff or small plane.
In 1951, she married Oren Hudson. They built a log cabin near Nondalton and a house at IIiamna. She served as the rural nurse there, providing medical care to the people of IIiamna and nearby villages. In 1965, after homesteading for a year in Kenai, they moved to Anchorage. She worked as a school nurse for the Anchorage School district and created a dental hygiene program for students throughout the area. She retired from nursing in 1976.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. Ruth was a kind and generous person who loved gardening, association with her many friends, her Church, her family, the beauty of Alaska and a good game of card; thoughout her life, she sought out and provided comfort and care to those in need.
Survivors include her husband, Oren Hudson; children, Kerry Hudson (Mike) West, Kent Hudson and Guy Hudson; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Blaine, Jerry, Reo, Arlow and Jack Grover, Zola Rhone, Merel Driggs, Donna Storer, Martha Lee, and Bonnie Anderson.
She was proceded in death by her parents, by her sister Amber Lovell; brother Rex Grover; and a grand daughter.
