Kathleen Groah "Tinks" Bowman, 92, a resident of Camelot Hall Nursing Home since March of 1995 and former resident of Port Republic, died December 5, 1996, (Thursday) at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, where she had been a patient since November 27th of this year. She was born in Port Republic on March 22, 1904, and was a daughter of the late William Michael and Lucie Connel Groah. Mrs. Brown attended State Normal School, now James Madison University and the University School of Nursing. She taught school in Rockingham County for a number of years and also worked for the State Board of Health in Richmond. She was a postal clerk for 18 years at the Port Republic Post Office and acting post master there for 2 years. She was a member of the Port Republic United Methodist Church, the Hi-Noon Club, AARP, and the Port Republic Extension Homemakers Club. On October 13, 1928, she married John Harry Bowman, who died January 28, 1971. She was also preceded in death by three sons, George II Bowman, who died January 30, 1973, Robert L. Bowman, who died October 5, 1960, and Johnie B. Bowman, who died September 16,1937. She is survived by three sons, William H. Bowman of Rt. 1, McGaheysville, Galen G. Bowman of Grottoes and Joseph B. Bowman of Port Republic; one daughter, Betty Winegard of Grottoes; twelve grandchildren, Sandra Hammer, Charles Bowman, Robert W. Bowman, Robert L. Bowman, Roan Bowman, Gail Heiston, Lori Gravely, Scott Bowman, Robin Winegard, Roger Winegard, Carrie Reardon, and John Reardon. Eight great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services at the Port Republic United Methodist Church by the Reverend Louis M. Strickler. Burial will be in the St. Jacob's (Spader's) Lutheran Church Cemetery near Harrisonburg.
