An area resident all his life, he attended Randolph Central School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II from Aug. 4, 1941, to Oct. 13, 1945, as a messenger on jeep patrol in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and in the Central Europe Russia Region. He received the American Defense Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He had been employed by Dahlstrom Manufacturing in Falconer for 32 years, retiring in 1981. In earlier years, he had been employed by Randolph Dimension and was an area dairy farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Randolph, and the Jamestown VFW Post 53.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, loving husband and father. He had also played bugle for the Army Drum and Bugle Corps.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martha Arlene Newton Buvoltz, whom he married Sept. 28, 1943, in Steamburg; two daughters: Nancy R. Williams of Bath and Martha A. ''Marti'' Potter of Gerry; eight grandchildren: Sara Cherry, Sonya Hicks, Melissa Hayflinger, Timothy and Rebecca Williams, Megan Potter-Allen, and Courtney and Lindsey Potter; three great-grandchildren; three brothers: his twin, Stephen Buvoltz of Spencer, W.Va., Louis Buvoltz of Russell, and Harry Buvoltz of Fredonia; and two sisters: Dorothy Abbey and Julia Covert, both of Randolph.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother; and two sisters: Florence Colburn and Anna Shaw.
