Ella was born in about 1855. She was of the Euchre band of Indians whose lands were located at lower Rogue River in southwest Oregon. She was born at Siletz according to one record. However, since she was born during Rogue River War (1855-6) and experienced the removal of her people to the Siletz Indian reservation, she may have been born near her ancestral homeland on the lower Rogue River. See: Port Orford treaty of 1851 after which people of the Euchre Creek, Coquille and Tututni (aka Lower Rogue River tribes) were removed to the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation.
In the 1930 US Census she is listed as Euchre Indian, full blood, and her language was Yuchi.
She and her husband Chetco Ben had at least 8 children, all who appear to have been born at Siletz Reservation.
