Anna was born April 18, 1813, in Ostheeren, Prussia. Her father is Johann Andreas Zander who was born March 27, 1788, in Klein Jerichow, Prussia. He died January 14, 1857, in Ostheeren, Prussia. Her mother is Anna Dorothea (Kaiser) Zander who was born September 11, 1789. She died February 7, 1852, probably in Osthrerren, Prussia. Johann and Anna married circa 1810. Anna Dorothea (Zander) Stehwien's grandparents are Fritz Zander and D.E. Beckmann.
On April 14, 1838, Anna married Joachim Christoph Mangelsdorff. They had five children. Joachim died June 19, 1850 near Arnim, Prussia. On November 26 of the same year, Anna married Andreas Stehwien in Arnim, Prussia. Seven years later on November 25, 1857, Anna, Andreas and their now eight children, immigrated to America, landing in New Orleans, Louisiana. They arrived on the ship "D.H. Watjen". From there they traveled up the Mississippi River by boat to St. Louis, Missouri. They were there several weeks. Andreas heard of a German settlement not far from there called Hermann in Gasconade County. They decided to settle there, a place similar to their homeland, working in the wine producing business. Eventually, they migrated to Kansas and lived in Atchison and then Lawrence.
