Shirley Ruth Lane Kunz, 71, was called home to her Heavenly Father on August 5, 2009. She was born April 20, 1938 to Harold and Ruth Lane of Montpelier. She grew up in Bear Lake and attended Montpelier High School.
She married Hervin Lorenzo Hemmert on August 10, 1955. They made their home in St. Charles. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple, Feb. 22, 1974.
To this marriage they had seven children. They later divorced. When the opportunity arose, she helped raise two nieces and treated them like her own daughters. They called her Auntie Mom.
Shirley pursued her career and dream of becoming a registered nurse. After receiving her degree, she moved to Rexburg and worked at Madison Memorial Hospital and Home Health. While working in the hospital, she met her sweetheart, Dale Greenhalgh. They were married Sept. 1, 1985. He passed away in August of 1995.
Shirley returned to Bear lake to be close to her children and grandchildren. She worked at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. She met and married Wayne Kunz. They were later divorced.
Shirley was always in service of others. Her compassion for all people showed in her nursing skills. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and made people laugh.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel and served in many callings. Over the years she served as a raspberry field boss, 4-H leader, Young Women's camp director, Women's sports director, and served on the Bear Lake County school board.
She is survived by six of her seven children: Denise Green of Preston, Susan (Tom) Speedy of Logan, Paul (Barbie) Hemmert of Springville, Ellen Martin of Provo, Vernon (JanDell) Hemmert of Paris and Alan (Casie) Hemmert of Paris; two sisters, Gloria Grunig of Pocatello and Karen (Larry) Fretwell of Rock Springs; 26 grandchildren including three step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson of Alan and Casie Hemmert, a daughter Julie Phelps, and husband, Dale Greenhalgh.
Funeral Services were held Aug. 19, at the Montpelier Fifth Ward LDS Church. Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
