Grandmother Hines Dead – Isabelle Hines one of the pioneer settlers was born in Archer Township Harrison Co. OH, January 1805 and died April 15, 1899 at 10:30 a.m. She was a woman of wonderful physical and mental force and a true helpmate to her husband in every sense of the word. A kind and indulgent mother, a true friend and neighbor and a helper of the poor and needy. The subject of this sketch became a member of the M.E. Church at the age of 17 years and remained a devout member for 77 years until her death. She stands out in bold relief as does her husband (now deceased) as a shining light to the succeeding generations.
She was united in marriage to William Hines in the year 1827, when they settled on the Hines homestead where they lived an industrious happy Christian life together for nearly 70 years.
When the nightly petitions of the husband in his extreme old age failed to be audible, she in true Christian style was always ready to help.
Seven children of Mr. And Mrs. Hines survive their mother; John R. Hines of Murray IA, Lemuel of San Francisco CA, Sarah J. wife of Gillespie Haverfield, Mary, now Mrs. Joseph McBeth, William F., Samuel M. and James McMahan all of Harrison County OH.
Succeeding this generation follows 27 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren who live to venerate the name of Grandmother Hines. A.H. Cadiz Republican 4/27/1899.
