Samuel HITCHCOCK was born in Harrison County {Ohio}, April 26, 1819, died November 30, 1908, aged eighty-nine years, seven months and four days. He was married to Martha BIRNEY in 1844 and to this union were born six children, five boys and one girl, all of whom are living. Three of the boys have been living in the West for several years, Hugh in Cody, Wyoming, John Wesley in Lincoln, Nebraska, and William in Whitney, Nebraska, Melville, Asbery and Jennie lived with their parents. He moved to this state in 1857 spending the remainder of his life on a farm about three-quarters of a mile south of Owensburg. Sorrow entered his home about four years ago and claimed his beloved companion. He united with the M. E. church when quite a boy and lived a faithful, conscientious Christian life. He was class leader here for many years and was always present to point his hand to the Blessed Master who doeth all things well. The funeral services were held a the home in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives, after which he was laid to rest beside his companion, there to await the resurrection of the just.
