'Then further down Piney in the vicinity of what was called the cane bottom, is the grave of John Wesley Ross, ancestor of the large Ross family in the area. He was killed near his lone burial site by bushwhackers during the Civil War. He was buried by his wife and another lady in what was described as a shallow grave. It is said that his wife took off her apron and covered his face with it in order to shield him from the dirt.'
