Francis E. Willoughby, a resident of Winnebago county since 1866, died Tuesday morning at his home on North Main street at 10:35 o'clock after an illness of stomach trouble.

Mr. Willoughby had been in failing health since last December.
Mr. Willoughby was a native of the state of New York and was born at Oxford, Chenango county, April 30, 1831. His parents were John B. and Nancy Willoughby, who spent their lives in the Empire state.

His education was received in the schools of New York and in 1855 he moved west, taking up residence in Lynville township, Ogle county. Mr. Willoughby purchased a farm there and remained in Ogle county until the spring of 1866 when he moved to Winnebago county, remaining in this county as a farmer for forty-four years.

Mr. Willoughby was married to Miss Janet E. Root, also a native of Oxford, New York, January 6, 1857.

The seven following children were born of this union. Augusta E., wife of W.O. Eddy, residing opposite the old homestead, Edgar C., who died Sept. 11, 1895; Alice and Nancy who died in infancy; Arthur B., who resides north of the old homestead; John M. of Los Angeles, Cal., and Frank W., living at home. One brother, W.D. Willoughby, Oxford, N.Y., also survives.

Decedent was an indefatigable worker in the Court Street Methodist church, always taking a deep interest in all of it's religious and social activities. He was a trustee in the church for over thirty years and taught a bible class for thirty-six years continuously. In political affiliations he was a staunch prohibitionist and was an earnest champion of the doctrines of that party.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence. Rev. James M. Taber will conduct the services and interment will be in the West Side cemetery.
