This son remembers his dad as a very gentle and kind-hearted man greatly loved by his family and his friends. According to my mom, the name Carnes was supposedly derived from a Methodist minister possibly in Angelina County who is yet undiscovered by me.
The middle name Ibard was derived from his uncle Ibard B. Carrell. He and Versa had three sons and two daughters.

Prior to my dad's hair turning grey-white, he had cold black hair. He was small in stature, about 5'6"to7" and weighing approximately 140/150 pounds in his middle age.

At the time of my dad's death, the funeral home became so full that people had to stand in the hallway. The Lufkin Police Department with whom his son William W. McClendon was employed at the time, came out in numbers to honor him along the route to the Whitehouse Cemetery. Ron
