Minden resident Jack Schwartz, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden.

Services were held o Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. Burial was in Minden Cemetery.

Mr. Schwartz was born Dec. 26, 1921, to Albert F. and Anna (Andersen) Schwartz in Hildreth. He graduated from Hildreth High School in 1941. He attended Midland College until he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. On March 18, 1944, he married Jacqueline Cyphers at Minter Air Base in Bakersfield, Calif. He served in the 8th Air Force as a B-17 pilot. After World War II, he served in the reserves and then returned to Hildreth, where he worked with his father and brothers in the implement and farming business. He and his family moved to a farm north of Hildreth in 1959. In 1996, they moved into Minden.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. He was a past member of Hildreth Volunteer Fire Department, past president and member of the Hildreth Lions Club and life-member of the Nebraska Chapter of 8th Air Force Historical Society. He also was a member of the Silver Wings Fraternity, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Karen Nelson of Minden, Claire Fish of Kearney and Jane Blum of Hildreth; one son, Fred of Papillion; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
