Jewell Lewis was born July 31, 1927 in Jacksboro, Texas to William and Ella Dee Swenney Nunley, Sr. On October 16, 1953 she married Walter D. Lewis at Clovis, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2001. She was a registered nurse and had worked in Plainview, Olton, Stratford and Dumas. She was an accomplished seamstress and made clothes for her family. She also did all the alterations for Bills Men Shop in Stratford. Jewell had been a resident of Stratford since 1974 before moving to Dumas in 1987 and had lived in Noble, Oklahoma for the past 3 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Stratford.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Walter Gordon Lewis on September 13, 2006.
Survivors include; son, Keith Lewis and wife, Rhonda of Clayton, NM; daughters, Kathy Sarratt and husband, Donnie of Norman, Okla, Linda Massengale and husband, Byron of Aurora, Colo; brothers, Jessie Euel Nunley of Jacksboro, Jonny Newton Nunley of Haltom City; grandchildren, Miguel, Anthony, Angela, Chris, Kamber, Scott, Jaysie, Keitha, Nicklas and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, Tx. 79029.
