Montgomery Township Loses One of its Best-known Citizens
Heathsville, Ill., April 18, 1898
This community was shocked Friday by the sudden and fatal illness of I. T. G. Parker. Friday morning he was apparently in his usual health and went out in the orchard to work in the berry vines. He was found there by his wife and Dr. Maxedon about two hours afterward, apparently lifeless. He was carried to the house and everything that could be done resorted to, but, although he rallied for awhile, and his breathing grew better, he never recovered consciousness, and passed away Saturday morning about 10:30. His death was caused by cerebral hemorrhage resulting in paralysis.
Mr. Parker was a descendant of the old pioneer settlers. He was the son of Thomas N. Parker, who was a soldier in the Black Hawk war and who teamed many times in an ox wagon between this county and Chicago.
The subject of this sketch showed his patriotism in July, 1861, by enlisting in Co. II, II Mo. Infy. Vol. He was married on January 3, 1840, to Hanna Ann Montgomery. Six children were born to them, all of whom survive, viz: Mrs. Mary E. Kent, Newman E. Parker, Flora A. Liston, Maria E. McCarty, Zarilla J. Seaney and George H. Parker. Mrs. Parker died about a year ago, and Mr. Parker subsequently married Miss Hanna M. Highsmith, who survives him.
Mr. Parker was a man who commanded the respect of all, for his big, generous heart was always ready to shelter the poor and oppressed. The whole community will feel the loss of this useful member, and the sympathy of many warm friends is extended to bereaved family.
Interment occurred in the Jones cemetery near Flat Rock Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Felix Wampler.
Isaac and Hannah are also the parents of:
Rilla Parker Seaney who is married to John H. Seaney.
