Two men, Clarion Pike, 20, and Mal Brown, negro laborer, lost their lives in a road accident about 9:15 Monday morning which occurred on a farm to market road in the neighborhood of Denton, small community near Steele in the south part of the county, when a large trailer truck driven by young Pike failed to make a turn leading onto a bridge over a drainage ditch. The truck and trailer, loaded with heavy house moving machinery of the young man's father, Paul V. Pike, left the road and went into the ditch, the heavy load shifting forward and crushing the truck cab. Both men died almost instantly and a third occupant of the truck, Morris Lilley, ex-service man of this city, saved his life by jumping. He landed on the floor of the bridge which has no railing and sustained scratches and bruises, but was not seriously injured. Pike's head was crushed from the load's impact.
........
Funeral services were held for Pike Wednesday morning at the Catholic Church in this city and interment was in Little Praire Cemetery. He is survived by an elder brother, David, who was a flyer of the late war and by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul V. Pike. He was born in this locality July 24, 1926 and was only a few days past his 20th birthday.
