BRIDGETON, Mo. -- Funeral Mass for Sister Rose Francis Brockmeyer, SSND, of Bridgeton, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Motherhouse Chapel in South St. Louis County. A prayer service was held Aug. 24, 2009, at Anna House, The Sarah Community, on the campus of SSM DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton. Burial will be in the Motherhouse Cemetery. Kutis City Chapel handled arrangements.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 26, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Sister Rose, 82, died Aug. 21, 2009, at Anna House, The Sarah Community, from congestive heart failure. She was born in Cape Girardeau on Jan. 4, 1927, to Frank and Mary Eftink Brockmeyer.
She entered the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1946 from St. Mary Parish in Cape Girardeau. She professed first vows in 1949 and final vows in 1955. She earned a bachelor's in history education in 1959 and a master's in elementary administration in 1968 from Immaculate Heart of Mary College in Los Angeles. She taught at Santa Isabel in Los Angeles from 1949 to 1961 and St. Marianne de Paredes in Pico Rivera, Calif., from 1967 to 1969. She served as principal and teacher at St. Joseph in Holtville, Calif., from 1961 to 1967, St. Andrew in St. Louis from 1969 to 1972, Immaculate Conception in Jackson from 1972 to 1982 and St. George in Linn, Mo., from 1982 to 1992. From 1992 to 2006 she served at Villa Gesu, the former retirement home of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and at the motherhouse in St. Louis. She retired in 2006.
Survivors include a brother, Alfred (Ruth) Brockmeyer of Hawk Point, and seven sisters, Bertha (Paul) Essner of Benton, Theresa (Joseph) Schreckenberg of Hillsboro, Frieda (Joseph) Seyer, Julie (Donald) James and Dorothy (Paul) Summers of Cape Girardeau, and Frances (Joseph) Willenbring and Millie (Charles) Seyer of Jackson.
