Bolen, July 19 - George Edward Bolen, 78, retired farmer and insurance salesman of Bolen, died at Tri-County Hospital in Orangeburg at 5 p.m. today after a short illness.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church by his pastor, the Rev. Morgan Kizer, assisted by his brother, the Rev. Paul A. Bolen. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bolen, a native of Orangeburg County, was a son of the late Rev. George E. and Martha Fogle Bolen. He was a senior deacon at Bethany Church and had been a church treasurer for 27 years.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Gardner Bolen; three children, Mrs. Edward Wells of Columbia, A.H. Bolen of Greenville and Henry G. Bolen of Bell Gardens, Calif.; two brothers, the Rev. Mr. Bolen of Bolen and B.B. Bolen of Florence; three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Davis of Columbia, Mrs. Rachel Rollings of Orangeburg and Mrs. Maggie Rutland of Neeses; and six grandchildren.

The Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Jno. R. Bonnette, T. Garland Bonnette, Leonard Rutland, Hazel Compton and George E. Rollings.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Bethany Church and also J. Leroy Dukes, Dr. W.O. Whetsell, Ray Antley, A.J. Hydrick, Dr. W.L. Henear and Judge Jerry M. Hughes.
