Peter was married to Margaret Beavers on 13 Oct 1839 in Williams Co., Ohio.
Peter Himes, 55, was shot to death by Benjamin F. Everetts, 61, on the night of December 3, 1873. Everetts was sitting in the living of his farmhouse a mile out on the Pulaski roads with Mrs. Everetts and a domestic, Mrs. Minerva Webster, when the dog barked. Everetts fired at least four shots from a navy revolver from the back porch into the backyard and hit Himes, who was found dying in an outbuilding. Everetts was tried for murder in May, 1875. A jury found him not guilty. Ben Everetts led a checkered career. He claimed to be a first cousin of President Abraham Lincoln, but this is not found true in the genealogy of the Lincoln family. Everetts is said to have died in the county infirmary, but there is no record of it either there or in the probate office. His house, next to the Air Line railroad, was bought by John Caulkins and rented to Israel Crout, and was soon afterward destroyed by fire.
Peter Himes was shot & killed by Benjamin F. Everett, while endeavering to enter the dwelling of the latter during the night.
No one believed that the intents of Himes were larceny or robbery, yet his preceedings was unlawfull.
Everett gave himself up to the legal authorities, by whom he was tried & acquitted.
