William Himes, son of Peter and Margaret Himes, was born in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio and departed this life at his home in Hudson, Ind., May 3, 1926, at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 25 days. He was the oldest of a family of 11 children, three of whom preceeded him in death. They were; Barbara, Livina and John. He was a volunteer soldier of the Civil War, enlisting Feb 23, 1864, and was honorably discharged July 12, 1865. He was a member of Company D and 38th Regiment O.V.I. On Sept. 6, 1864, he was united in marriage to Emily Luella Myers with whom he as lived these 53 years and 8 months. There were no children born to this union, but they raised from childhood Adolph Campbell and Esther Chrisman Hart. Most of his life was spent on a farm near Bryan, Ohio, from which he moved to Hudson, Ind., in 1909, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was industrious, thrifty and honest, always ready to help those in need. Those left to mourn his departure are his wife, foster daughter, five sisters, Jane Strawser, of Farmer Center, Ohio, Mary Leicley, Ellen Myers, Marilla King and Adeline Crull; three brothers, George of Leesburg, Ind., Emory of Channahon, Ill., and Andrew of Bryan, Ohio, his nephew and nieces and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral was held from the home Sunday, May 6, 1926, at 2:00 o'clock conducted by the pastor, A.E. Stucker. Burial in Circle Cemetery.
