CARBONVILLE, Carbon County -- Hyrum Laird, 87, died Friday, July 9, 1976, in a nursing home in Price after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 19, 1888 in Goshen, to David and Elizabeth Gardner Laird. He married Pearl Evans in 1912 in Provo. She died in 1960. He married Iva Pearl Huff Barney on March 10, 1961 in Provo.

Mr. Laird was a retired coal miner, and he had been a member of United Mine Workers Local 6363. He was director of Carbon County welfare for many years and a president of Spring Canyon Community Club.

Survivors include his widow, Spanish Fork; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Wilda) Skinner and Mrs. Paul (Marba) Elliott, both of Carbonville; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Laird, Payson and eight stepchildren.

Funeral will be Tuesday at noon at the Mitchell Funeral Chapel, Price, where friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock and Tuesday before services. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Provo City Cemetery.
