Son of Jane Ann Catherine Griner and Lorenzo Dow Scott; married to Sarah Ann "Sallie" Lowther, daughter of Sarah Ann and John Lowther. Known children include: Perry Thomas Scott, Mac Norman Scott, Viola Tallulah Scott Oglesby, Allie Fletcher Scott, Minnie Elizabeth Scott Newman, Annie Floye Scott Williams Madray, and Bessie Mae Scott Miller Buie.
Their grave sites have been overgrown by some oak trees just behind the Dean Family plot, but there is an unmarked post there that was the footstone of Barney. According to one of his nieces, Barney had made his own tombstone out of heart pine and brass tacks, but it has disappeared. Sallie's grave is unmarked.
