EARLY FAMILY MEMBER DIES
A member of one of San Bernardino's oldest families and a former constable in Colton, George W. Tyler, died Monday at the age of 81.
Mr. Tyler, who worked as a rancher most of his life, came to San Bernardino 70 years ago. He was born in Payson City, Utah.
His brother, Emory B. Tyler, former prominent San Bernardino attorney, died several years ago.
Mr. Tyler made his home in recent years at the site of the old Tyler ranch at 337 Second street. His uncle (stepfather) was U. U, Tyler, one of the valley's early settlers, one of the first men to bring mail from Los Angeles to San Bernardino. The latter drove oxen between San Bernardino and Los Angeles and frequently carried passengers as well as mail.
Mr. Tyler was in business in Colton at one time and later served as constable in that community. He also served on Colton's council board for several years.
Mr. Tyler died in a San Bernardino hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mark B. Shaw Memorial chapel with interment in the pioneer section of the city cemetery.
Survivors are a (*step-)brother, J. H. Tyler of San Bernardino; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rose Tyler, and a niece, Mrs. Belle T. Rees of Redlands.
Nieces and nephews are two sons and a daughter of J. H. Tyler; three daughters of Mrs. Rose Tyler.
