Charles H. Hancock Passes Away at Harrisville.
--------------------------
Charles B. Hancock, one of the oldest residents of Weber county, and a survivor of the Mormon battalion, died yesterday at 2:10 at his home in Harris ville. Death had been expected for several days and most of the relatives of Mr. Hancock had been summoned and were at his bedside when the end came.

Mr. Hancock had reached the age of 80 years, 1 month and 1 day. He was a direct descendant of two celebrated American families, the Adams and the Hancocks. Two of his ancestors were signers of the Declaration of Independence. His full name is Charles Brett Hancock. He was born at Colombia, O., Dec. 23, 1823.

His father died at Council Bluffs in 1847 and the young man joined the Mormon battalion and was discharged from service July 16 of the same year and came at once to Salt Lake. He worked for a number of years at the church farm, and settled in Payson in 1850, being the second bishop of that place.

In 1852 he was appointed colonel of the southern division of the territorial militia by Governor Brigham Young. He served in all of the Indian wars of that period and was once severly wounded in the head. In 1869 he moved to Harrisville, Weber county, and has lived there ever since.

He was the father of twenty children, twelve of whom are living; grand-father of seventy-three and great-grand-father of fourteen.

His funeral will occur at the Harrisville meeting house Tuesday at 11 a.m.
