William Carter Bell was the son of Bailey H. & Eleanor (Carter) Bell.

He married Mary Elizabeth (Peayler). Their children were: Emanuel Scully (Aug. 1, 1882), Bailey Everett (Dec. 31, 1891), & William Eugene (1906).

William died in Tulsa on May 31, 1940. His obit follows:
William C. Bell, Pioneer, is Dead
Tulsan, 84, Watched City Grow From Prairie to Metropolis
William Carter Bell, 84-year-old state pioneer, who watched Tulsa grow from a grassy prairie to what it is today, died Friday following a short illness at the home of his son, Bailey E. Bell, 3701 South peoria.

Bell, a native of near Sedalia, MO, came to Indian Territory & a spot eventually to be called "Tulsey Towne" 68 years ago, where for a short time he served as an Indian scout & also on a ranch operated by the father of the late Will rogers.

Later Bell went back to Missouri for a few years and then returned at which time he entered the building contracting business. He built the old J.M. Hall building in early-day Tulsa and also the one-story Bob Bynum building.

It had always been Bell's assertion that the first post office was lodged in the log cabin and not the pioneer Perryman home, his son said Friday night. Recent arguments over the original site of the post office have been threshed out publicly and his son said Bell asserted then the post office was located in the log cabin.

Bell had been seriously ill only two weeks at the time of his death. He was a close friend of Gordon W. (Pawnee Bill) Lillie, pioneer Oklahoman and one-time Indian scout.

Surviving Bell are three sons, Bailey E. Bell of the home, Emanuel G. Bell of Oceola, MO, and Eugene W. Bell of Philadelphia; a sister, Mrs. Neely Fewell, Calhoun, Mo., and four grandchildren.

While funeral arrangements are (next line unreadable) be Tommy Tomson, George Blaine, E.B. McKee, M.C. Spradling, Harry Seaton, and J.A. Rowles.
