A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Maringouin, she died at 4 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. She was 85. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent cook and had a passion for cooking for family and friends. She was a graduate of Draughn Business College. She was former owner and restauranteur of Mario's Italian Kitchen and Jody's Seafood Restaurant. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, July 13, was from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 5 p.m. Visiting at the funeral home on Monday, July 14, is from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Tom Duhé. Entombment in Greenoaks Mausoleum. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Geri and Al Giffin, Baton Rouge; four sons and daughters-in-law, Mario Jr. and Jan Vaccaro, Baton Rouge, Nicky and Pam Vaccaro, Hammond, Samuel Glynn and Susan Vaccaro, Greenwell Springs, and Jeff and Annette Vaccaro, Baton Rouge; three sisters, Genevieve Cavalier, Edna Prochaska and Katherine Soileau, all of Baton Rouge; brother, Louis Buriege, Baton Rouge; a sister-in-law, Joanna Maggio, Baton Rouge; 12 grandchildren, Jessica Cuba, Erin Brickey, Rachael Vaccaro, Tasha Daniel, Ashley Gebbia, Sean Vaccaro, Tiffiny Batey, Casey Vaccaro, Corey Vaccaro, Chris Giffin, Whitney Vaccaro and Jeffrey Vaccaro Jr.; and 15 great-grandchildren, Jon Michael and Gabe Cuba, Maggie Cate and Luke Brickey, Tyler, Lauren and Londyn Daniel, Hunter, Hayden and Emma Kate Gebbia, Nicholas and Syndey Vaccaro, Madison and Mackenzie Batey and Alexa Vaccaro. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Mario A. Vaccaro Sr.; her parents, Nick and Marie Buriege; six brothers and sisters, Sam Buriege, Rosalie Caruso, Tina Nicosia and Benny, Philip and Angelina Buriege. Pallbearers will be Sean Vaccaro, Casey Vaccaro, Corey Vaccaro, Chris Giffin, Louis Buriege, Benny Caruso, Michael Cashio and Vincent Maggio. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a former member of St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church.
