m2: Mrs. Mary Sherar in 1870 (after census). She died bef 1880 census, where Shelton is again shown as "widower". Mary brought at least one child, Frank Sherar (abt 1864-1885) to the marriage. She was born 1837 in NY and widow of Henry F. Shearer/Sherar who died Sep 1868 in nearby Holden, MO.
ch of Shelton and Mary:
-Elizabeth Ann "Eliza" HARRIS 1872*-1937 m: Gregg

*Note Elizabeth Ann "Lizzy" Harris Page Gregg is shown on death cert as born Sep 30 1862, died Oct 9 1937, which would make her dau of Shelton and Huldah. Ann E. dau of Sheldon and Mary is shown as age 7 in 1880 census, was born Sep 30 1872, died Oct 9 1937. This is clearly the same child, with a 10-year error in DOB on her death cert, and the dau of Mary.

1850 census: HARRIS Shelton/37/1813, Mahuldah/31, Sarah A/13, Elizabeth/11, Squire/9, Josephine/7, Amanda J/6, William H/4, Emily/2, James S./0

1860 Grundy MO: HARRIS Shelton/47, Haldah/41, Squire/20,
Josephine/18, Amanda J/16, Wm N/14, Emily/12, James/10, David/8, Mary E/6, Armilda/4, Oliver H/2; STANLEY, Wesley/37/KY-relationship unknown.

1870 Henry Co: HARRIS Shelton/55/wd, James S/20, David/17, Mary E/15, Armilda/13, Oliver/11, Thomas/7, SMITH Robert W/20.

Shelton married Mrs. Mary Sherar in 1870 after census, she died before 1880 census, reportedly 1873, Henry Co MO.

1880 Henry Co; HARRIS Shelton/66/wd, David/28, Elizabeth/22, Armilda/24, Oliver/22, Thomas/17, Ann E./7, SHERAR Frank/16/stepson.
(note re Frank; married Emeline Harp/Hark June 24 1884 in Cass Co. MO, consent by guardian J.D. Harris (step-brother), indicating Shelton had passed. Frank died less than a year later in May 1885.)

Note: Some trees show a son, Charles, born 1867. 1880 census shows child Charles C Harris/13/grandson with James A & Lydia Carpenter. Charles was not with Shelton (a widower) in 1870, but would have been a toddler and perhaps raised by the Carpenters from birth or when his mother died. Charles unlikely to be Shelton's son
- it has not been determined if he is grandchild of Shelton and Hulda. Shelton had a nephew named Charles Shelton Harris of same age who is more likely this child with incorrect middle initial.

Kentucky, County Marriages, 1783-1965
Name: Mahidala Williams
Marriage Date: 14 Jul 1836
Marriage Place: Garrard, Kentucky
Spouse: Shelton Harris
Film Number: 000183256

Johnson County, Missouri, Marriage Index, 1861-1871
Name: Mrs. Mary Sherrer
Marriage Date: 1870
Marriage Place: Johnson, Missouri
Spouse: Shelton Harris

(Note: examination of document shows Shelton lived in Henry County, Mary in Holden, witnesses were J.J. Harris (Shelton's brother) and D. Stone; filed Dec 9 1870.)

No death record for Shelton has been found, nor is he shown to be buried in any of the Urich-area cemeteries. It is reasonable to assume he is buried in Kepner cemetery with his first wife, "Huldah". Huldah's gravestone was uncovered in 2006 where it was under a few inches of sod; Shelton may have a buried marker nearby. The cemetery is in woeful condition, most markers are broken/illegible/inaccessible and there are many unmarked graves. It is extremely overgrown, some areas with bramble bushes you can't get through, but markers/parts of markers are visible within the bramble patch.

Shelton's brother, James Jackson/Jackson James Harris is buried in this cemetery with a military marker. There are unmarked graves on both sides of him.

Shelton was shown as the bondsman for his brother George Washington Harris' marriage in Dec 1836 in Lincoln Co, KY (next to Garrard County).
